It is
important to have realistic expectations. You
have free will to accept
or reject the hypnosis process. We learn - and our brain adapts - to change with
repetition. Some issues require more repetition than other issues to
unravel deeply embedded negative beliefs.
Pain and chronic illness: The American
Medical Association has endorsed hypnosis as a therapeutic modality
since the 1950’s. During WW2, the Mayo Brothers (of the famous Mayo
Clinic) used hypnosis to reduce the need for morphine in soldiers.
Most websites for major illnesses, conditions and disease recommend
stress reduction - relaxation techniques and visualization (guided
imagery), often mentioning hypnosis specifically. A recent Harvard
Medical Newsletter on Stress Management discussed the benefits of
hypnosis and meditation.
California Disclosure
California Law allows residents access
to complementary and alternative health care practitioners who are not
providing services that require medical training and credentials. The
following disclosure is provided in compliance with Section 2053.6 of
the California Business and Professional Code 2908.
Hypnotherapy is an alternative or
complementary treatment for vocational and
avocational self-improvement. Services are non-diagnostic and
do not include the practice of medicine nor should they be considered
as a substitute for licensed or psychological services or procedures.
A hypnotherapist is neither a licensed
physician nor psychologist; hypnotherapy services are not currently
licensed by the state of California. Medical or psychological
referrals may be required for the treatment of some conditions.
Parental consent by both parents will be required for the therapy of
any minor under the age of 18 years old. Information revealed in
hypnotherapy is considered confidential; however, it is not subject to
the psychologist-patient privilege. A court may order disclosure of
information learned in therapy.
Hypnosis works with the power of the
subconscious mind to change habits and behaviors. Hypnosis may be a
powerful tool for accessing the subconscious source of many attitudes,
behaviors and emotions in order to create improvement. Deep relaxation
is common and the ability to visualize or imagine may be enhanced.
Hypnosis is often described as a state of escape from physical and
emotional stress while remaining completely aware and in control.
Because the subconscious mind does not recognize the difference
between fantasy and reality, statements made by the client in hypnosis
are not admissible as evidence in courts of law.
